We were honored to participate in this year’s Central Avenue Día de los Muertos Parade in Kansas City, Kansas, in partnership with the Police Athletic League of Kansas City, Kansas (PAL KCK). This vibrant community celebration brought together families, youth, and neighbors to honor a cherished tradition and remember loved ones who have passed.
Our team worked alongside PAL KCK youth to design and build their parade float, and joined them in walking the parade route. The excitement was easy to see as the kids proudly represented their community and shared candy and shirts with parade attendees. For many, this was their first time participating in a cultural parade of this scale, and the experience created memories that will last long after the night ended.
Día de los Muertos is a meaningful tradition that celebrates life, family, and remembrance. It is a time to honor those who came before us and to recognize the importance of community in carrying forward their legacy. Being welcomed into this celebration with our partners at PAL KCK was both a privilege and a powerful reminder of why we do this work.
PAL KCK provides mentorship, leadership development, and positive experiences for local youth. Their commitment to building strong relationships between young people and the community aligns closely with the Foundation’s mission to support children and families through hands on engagement and meaningful partnerships. By joining PAL KCK for this event, we helped create space for young people to shine, to lead, and to celebrate their heritage with pride.
This celebration also highlights the importance of cultural events in strengthening communities. When young people see their traditions recognized and uplifted, it fosters belonging, confidence, and connection. The Foundation believes that honoring cultural diversity enriches our shared community and deepens our commitment to creating opportunities for all young people to thrive.
