Kindness has a powerful way of bringing people together especially during the holiday season. For the third consecutive year, the NorthPoint Foundation proudly partnered with Kansas City International Academy (KCIA) to celebrate Kindness Day, a joyful and purpose-driven event that encourages students to give back while kicking off the holidays with fun, connection, and compassion.

Launched in 2023, Kindness Day was created as an opportunity for students to celebrate the season through acts of generosity and service. What began as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful annual tradition that continues to leave a lasting impression on students, volunteers, and the community alike.

A Day of Fun, Celebration, and Giving Back

This year’s Kindness Day served kindergarten through 8th grade students, with a combined total of 581 students participating. The day was thoughtfully designed to meet students where they are blending excitement, age-appropriate activities, and hands-on service.

Elementary students enjoyed onsite games, snacks, laughter, and interactive activities that filled the school with energy and smiles. Meanwhile, middle school students took a special field trip to the movie theater, creating shared memories and a sense of celebration as they enjoyed a movie together.

Each student also received a gift to take home, extending the joy of Kindness Day beyond the classroom.

Students Helping Students: Packing “Happy Kits”

At the heart of Kindness Day is the opportunity for students to serve others. This year, KCIA students helped pack “Happy Kits” for patients at Children’s Mercy. These kits are distributed throughout the hospital and clinics to help patients and families feel welcome, comforted, and cared for during their visit.

By participating in this hands-on service project, students experienced firsthand how small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact turning generosity into action and empathy into purpose.

Powered by Partnership and Volunteers

NorthPoint team members volunteered throughout the day, helping to run onsite activities and ensure that every student experienced a day filled with fun, encouragement, and celebration. Their presence and support helped bring Kindness Day to life, reinforcing the importance of community partnerships in creating impactful experiences.

As Kindness Day continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to inspire students to lead with compassion, celebrate the season of giving.

Through laughter, service, and shared joy, KCIA’s Kindness Day reminds us all that kindness is something worth celebrating—today and everyday.
