In Washington County, Maryland, the Foundation took an important step toward supporting early childhood education by sponsoring a book distribution for Pre-K students enrolled in Title I programs across six local elementary schools. Timed just ahead of winter break, the initiative ensured students received books before the busy end of the semester—giving them something meaningful to take home, explore, and enjoy during the holiday season.

Access to age-appropriate books plays a critical role in early literacy development, helping young learners build language skills, spark curiosity, and develop a lifelong love of reading. For many families, having books at home is not a given, making initiatives like this one especially impactful.

Volunteers worked closely with educators and school staff to distribute the books, creating a joyful and engaging experience for students. The excitement on students’ faces, paired with the appreciation expressed by teachers and district leaders, reinforced the importance of investing in literacy at an early age.

The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive and has already opened the door for expanded partnerships and additional charitable opportunities in the region. What began as a single distribution effort is now paving the way for continued collaboration and deeper impact in Washington County schools.

By supporting early literacy, the Foundation is helping lay the groundwork for long-term academic success—one book, one student, and one community at a time.
