Last week, Kansas City International Academy (KCIA) hosted parent and teacher conferences, a meaningful time for families to connect with educators about student progress and support. In addition to these important conversations, KCIA created a family resource room to ensure parents had access to essential items and food ahead of the upcoming season.
Volunteers from studioNorth Architecture were grateful for the opportunity to assist. They helped set up and take down the resource room, and packed individual bags of food for more than 100 families. This effort provided nutritious items for students and parents, strengthening food security during a time when extra support can make a significant difference.
By handling logistics and distribution, studioNorth volunteers ensured that KCIA social workers were able to focus on what matters most: connecting directly with families. Rather than managing the shopping experience, the KCIA team had valuable time to listen, answer questions, and support parents in their engagement with school and community resources.
KCIA serves a diverse and resilient student population, many of whom are multilingual learners. Family engagement and wraparound support play a crucial role in student success, and it was an honor to contribute to an event centered on care, dignity, and partnership.
We're proud of the studioNorth team and their continued commitment to hands on service in local schools. When we show up with our time, attention, and energy, we help create space for educators, social workers, and families to do what they do best: support the whole child and build community together.
We remain inspired by our partners at KCIA, and we look forward to future opportunities to walk alongside them in service to students and families.
